“Unique Moments”

“Unique Moments” is a wine tourism project offering guided tours of Fermoselle’s underground heritage, aiming to make the town a driver of regional development.

This initiative by AECT Duero-Douro is part of the tourism projects “Ruta Internacional del Vino VinDuero” and “TerraDuero: Turismo & Patrimonio”, which seek to position the Spanish-Portuguese border as a high-quality international tourist destination. AECT Duero-Douro has joined forces with the Fermoselle Town Hall, winemakers, and local entrepreneurs to showcase the hidden heritage values of the municipality.

The tours explore the history, culture, gastronomy, ancestral popular architecture, and the most mysterious aspects of local wine tourism. They are conducted in Spanish by Adrián Pérez, Heritage, Museums, and Art Market Manager, and in Portuguese by Filipa Melo, Master in Tourism Management and Planning.

Fermoselle is a Zamoran town built on a massive stone formation, whose interior hides ancestral popular architecture of great value. Several kilometers of galleries and passageways run beneath the village, where the wineries interconnect to form a rich underground network of cultural heritage. Opening this hidden world of underground wineries to tourism has long been a dream, achieved thanks to AECT Duero-Douro’s initiative: TerraDuero is the tourist brand for the border area, multiplying activities, culture, and traditions on both sides of La Raya. Any tourist can enjoy Fermoselle and cross the border within half an hour. The border, now symbolic, has always been and will continue to be an attraction and incentive for regional development.

In this first phase, a dozen wineries are included, with plans to expand and complement them with other wine tourism activities, such as personalized tastings featuring local products, and themed visits, such as the route showcasing wineries with Jewish heritage, called “The 7 Steps of Wine.” These activities are conceived as a new tourist incentive and development driver. Fermoselle also offers a cultural heritage formed by a network of labyrinthine streets, one of the last Jewish strongholds in Reconquista-era Spain, with numerous hidden vestiges that visitors can explore thanks to the TerraDuero Tourist Brand and the VinDuero International Wine Route.

“Unique Moments” tours are offered every weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) in the morning and afternoon, highlighting Fermoselle’s extraordinary underground heritage. The main objective is rural development and enhancing the region’s tourism potential. In this context, Fermoselle plays a key role among attractive municipalities, not only due to its border location with Portugal but also as a natural balcony overlooking the Arribes del Duero Natural Park.
