The Arribes del Duero is an impressive region located in the northwest of Spain, on the border with Portugal. This area has numerous scenic roads and spectacular landscapes, making it an ideal destination for a motorcycle route.

The motorcycle route through the Arribes del Duero covers 200 kilometers, with an estimated travel time of three and a half hours without stops. However, it is recommended to take your time to enjoy the most emblematic and beautiful points along the way.

You can start from different locations: Madrid, Zamora, Salamanca… In this guide, we focus on the route through Castilla y León.

Route Overview
Starting from the city of Zamora, located along the Duero River, make sure to visit its numerous Romanesque churches and cathedral. Begin your trip by enjoying some local dishes such as Zamoran rice, garlic soup, or “cañas zamoranas.”

Head towards Fermoselle via the CL-527, crossing the river. There is a gas station along the way to fill up your tank. The road to Fermoselle is peaceful, lined with oak groves, and offers a relaxing ride.

In Fermoselle, detour via ZA-316 to see the Bemposta Dam on the Portuguese border. The route continues with some sharp curves—ride carefully and take your time to enjoy the scenery safely.

You’ll enter Salamanca province after crossing the Tormes River and reach the small town of Pereña de la Ribera, home to the Almendra Reservoir, viewpoints, and the spectacular 50-meter-high Pozo de los Humos waterfall.

Next, pass through Villarino and Trabanca before reaching Fermoselle. Spend a couple of hours exploring its narrow streets, Romanesque church portals, Plaza Mayor, castle, wineries, and numerous viewpoints over the Arribes del Duero. Don’t miss tasting local gastronomy: Portuguese cod, Sayago beef, olive oil, and locally produced wines. Stay at the Posada Doña Urraca for a perfect experience with panoramic views and gourmet dining.

Continue through Masueco to Aldeadávila de la Ribera, known for its town hall, San Salvador Church, and stone houses. Take note of the Mirador del Fraile along the way. Then ride towards Zarza de Pumareda to the Saucelle Dam, where you can hike to the Picón del Moro and Salto viewpoints overlooking the Duero as it disappears into Portugal.

The route continues to Hinojosa de Duero, with winding roads through the mountains to the Mirador del Contrabando. Pass through Lumbares and the medieval village of San Felices, where you can hike along the Águeda River, following trails and cobbled paths lined with oaks, poplars, and holm oaks. Other options include visiting the Arco del Puerto, the Rosario Hermitage, or the Divino Cordero Hermitage.

Finally, arrive in Ciudad Rodrigo, famous for its walls, castle, Cathedral with the Pórtico del Perdón, and Plaza Mayor. Explore the Casa Consistorial and Casa del Primer Marqués de Cerralbo, both 16th-century landmarks.
