Arribes del Duero Natural Park

This protected natural area stretches for approximately 80 kilometres, encompassing parts of Zamora and Salamanca provinces and forming the border with Portugal. It has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve under the name “Meseta Ibérica”.

Its distinctive topography, with drops of over 200 metres in some areas, combined with the large flow of the Duero River and its tributaries, makes it an ideal zone for hydrographic exploitation, with numerous dams and reservoirs.

The Mediterranean-type microclimate created in this remarkable space supports animal and plant species typical of the Mediterranean region, such as rockroses, lavender, and Spanish sage. In its characteristic ravines, olive trees, vineyards, junipers, and even orange trees flourish. A sunlit, wind-sheltered valley with mild temperatures and virtually no frosts encourages the abundance of these Mediterranean species.

It is also one of the most valuable natural areas for wildlife in Europe. The cliffs and rocky formations are typical features of this environment, home to species of great faunistic value such as the griffon vulture, golden eagle, black stork, Egyptian vulture, and peregrine falcon, as well as the short-toed snake eagle, eagle owl, and red-billed chough.
