Zamora showcases itself at FITUR

The province and its villages, Holy Week, the Cultural Landscape of Zamora, Benavente, Toro and Fermoselle showcase the best they have to offer to attract visitors.

The province of Zamora has presented itself at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) as ‘a window for travellers’. With a varied offering that combines tradition, nature, culture and gastronomy, the villages of Zamora are a highly desirable destination. That is why, every year, thousands of tourists choose one of the villages of Zamora to enjoy a few days of relaxation, fresh air and the wide range of activities offered by rural tourism.

If you want to join this new trend but don't know where to start, read on!

Zamora as a UNESCO ‘Cultural Landscape’

One of the big announcements at FITUR was Zamora's candidacy as a UNESCO Cultural Landscape. This initiative seeks recognition for the city beyond its prestigious Romanesque architecture. Consider, for example:

  • The historical relationship between humans and nature: reflecting the great importance of activities such as mining, quarrying, agriculture and transhumance. Trades with a long history behind them, which have given rise to the beautiful corners of the landscape.
  • Integration of cultural and natural elements: Zamora's Romanesque architecture, its medieval architecture, the geology of the River Duero, native livestock and popular traditions such as Holy Week. A date marked in the calendars of hundreds of Zamora residents and international tourists.
  • Holy Week in Zamora: declared of International Tourist Interest, it is one of the province's great attractions. With centuries-old floats, night-time processions and a deep religious sentiment, it attracts thousands of visitors every year. A highly recommended experience if you want to enjoy an activity that is spiritual, historical and artistic at the same time.
  • Sustainability and the future: the project promotes the renaturalisation of spaces, improvements in green infrastructure and tourism that is conscious of respecting the environment.

Fermoselle, the village hidden underground

Firstly: Fermoselle, the cradle of a thousand wineries. Strategically located in the heart of the Los Arribes del Duero Protected Natural Park, Fermoselle is a natural balcony overlooking one of the most impressive landscapes on the peninsula.

Its cobbled streets hold a unique treasure: more than a thousand underground wine cellars, where wine has played a leading role for centuries. Visiting Fermoselle means immersing yourself in the wine-making tradition, enjoying the essence of a village with soul and toasting with the flavours that make this corner of Zamora an unforgettable destination.

Without a doubt, Fermoselle has everything you are looking for. From an exquisite and wide range of cuisine based on local products to places steeped in history, culture and hospitality.

A destination that can be enjoyed with all the senses and that welcomes everyone.

We look forward to seeing you at Doña Urraca, so you can enjoy everything that Fermoselle and its surroundings have to offer!

Benavente, a stop along the way

The mayor of Benavente, Luciano Huerga, presented the tourism projects undertaken by the Benavente City Council at FITUR.

Benavente is a must-see stop if you are in Zamora. Its tourism focus is on:

  • Free guided tours to discover its heritage.
  • An ambitious Tourism Sustainability Plan with more than €3 million in investment.
  • The Soledad González Interpretation Centre, considered the cultural epicentre of the city.
  • What's more, if you're someone who likes to travel with your home on your back, Benavente has an exclusive caravan area.

All these innovations make Benavente a sustainable, cultural destination that is suitable for all types of travellers.

Toro, city of music

The mayor of Toro, Tomás del Bien, presented the city at FITUR as the ‘city of music’. Every year, it organises numerous festivals covering all styles and audiences. Among the classics, we can highlight: Vintoro, Zarando Folk, Noche Blanca and the Jesús López Cobos classical music festival.

However, the city of Toro is renowned for its connection to the world of wine. Toro, which has its own Designation of Origin, is considered a benchmark for food and wine tourism in Castile and León.

Zamora: a destination that has it all

With its candidacy as a UNESCO Cultural Landscape, the richness of its Holy Week celebrations, the cultural offerings of Benavente, the music and wine of Toro, and the charm of Fermoselle with the hospitality of the Posada Doña Urraca, Zamora positions itself at FITUR as a unique destination in Spain.
